Word of The Week

la barretta - bar

These are my latest weapons in my quest to lose weight. They're meal replacement bars, two of these bad boys make up one meal. One of the packets I've got is chocolate and cocco (coconut), and the other is chocolate and caramello (caramel). The weight's slowly coming off, but with my beach holiday a month away I'll try anything!

Bad Italian Parking - Exhibit 6

It's the lunchtime car park!

I may be short of ideas for posts recently, but there's never a shortage of bad parkers, especially not on my street! This is what happens when you live on the same street as a popular trattoria, come mealtime people dump their cars anywhere because, of course, eating's much more important than anything else!

Word of The Week

L'interruzione - interruption/suspension

I despaired when I got home on Thursday night to find a notice on the front door of my building saying that there would be an interruzione to the water supply on Saturday morning. There wouldn't be any water between 8.30am and 1pm. I'm an early bird and I'm normally up and about by 8am on weekends, but luckily for me I already knew mid-week that I was going to sleep a bit later this weekend. It wasn't that much later though, by 9am I was awake. But I couldn't have a doccia (shower), couldn't brush my denti (teeth), or my faccia (face). Luckily I've got a Brita jug in my kitchen which I'd topped up, and enough water in my coffee machine for a cappuccino, but by 1am I felt like I was in desperate need of a wash!

Word of The Week

La frutta - fruit

Ok, it gets a bit complicated straight away. La frutta fristly refers to the fruit we eat, and it's the collective of a lot of fruit together. When the news keeps repeating every summer that we should drink lots of liquid and eat a lot of fruit when the very hot weather arrives, it's frutta that's referred to. Un frutto is one individual fruit, which can become plural, such as in frutti di bosco (fruits of the forest); or frutti di mare, which is literally 'fruits of the sea' - seafood!

With my summer holiday booked I'm on a last-minute diet, and I've been eating a lot of fruit. The photo is of some uva, but I've also been tucking into banane, fragole (strawberries), albicocche (apricots), and pesche (peaches). And one thing about all these fruits is that they're all feminine!
